Watauga County is fortunate to have many different large employers. Not relying on one major employer allows much more diversity in the workforce, and allows for a more stabile local economy. While Appalachian State University is by the far the largest employer in the County, there are many manufacturing firms, retail stores and local businesses that help employ our County. Several resorts, two medical facilities and a variety of government agencies add to overall job opportunities in the High Country.
